Thermax Energy & Environment Philippines Corporation is the wholly owned subsidiary of Thermax in the Philippines. Over the last decade, Thermax has successfully commissioned and installed several biomass-based power projects in the country. These projects are expected to play a key role in providing renewable energy for the country. A shining example is rice husk fuelled power plant on an EPC basis for Isabela Biomass Energy Corporation (IBEC) to generate 20 MW of power. The independent power plant generates electricity for utility companies and their end-users. Thermax was also awarded a two-year operation and maintenance contract of the plant. The project has been operating at a high degree of efficiency with 95% average capacity utilisation. The project won the IFC sustainable energy Finance award, on the back of which Thermax also backed a 5 MW IPP project for the Biomass Energy Corporation in the Philippines. This project uses rice husk, corncobs, coconut shells and corn stalk as the feed to generate energy. Thermax has a vision of playing a key role in the country’s development with solutions for industries like meat processing, beverages, cement and pharmaceuticals.
